Splash Park facing further delays
An array of unforeseen circumstances have pushed back the Splash Park completion to February 2023.
While the works on the actual splash park are progressing to plan with the splash pad near completion, the pipework and mounting structures for the water features installed and the concrete base poured, Council has faced a number of associated issues in delivering this project which have resulted in delays.
Wet weather from September to November has affected construction and the availability of contractors, which has had considerable impact on the timeline of the project. However, the need to replace and upgrade equipment required to operate the splash park have caused the most recent delay.
It was only once the water slide was removed and construction works commenced onsite that it was established that all of the existing equipment required to operate a new splash park needed to be replaced or upgraded. This included a new balance tank, a new plant room and upgraded pumps and filters.
The main delay is the need for a concreter to build the new concrete underground balance tank, which is scheduled for January but will rely on three to four weeks of dry weather to complete. All going well with the weather and no further delays, Council is hoping to have the splash park operational by mid-February.
Council understands that this is more than a major inconvenience to residents and visitors of Yarrawonga, Mulwala and surrounding areas. In a small gesture to the community, Council are coordinating a free new year's event at the foreshore with inflatables, food and entertainment. The foreshore kiosk will also be operational with the new addition of coffee and baked goodies.
Moira Shire Council Director of Infrastructure Services, Josh Lewis said Council understands the news is extremely disappointing for the community.
"Unfortunately there have been some significant challenges that have hampered progress"
"We are doing everything possible to keep things moving right up until Christmas and for our contractor to return early in the new year to finalise the works", Mr Lewis Said.
"We're working closely with the YMCA to provide free aquatic activities whilst the splash park and associated infrastructure is being completed - we understand this doesn't make up for the delays, however want to offer a small gesture to express our gratitude for the Community's patience and understanding."
