International and interstate teams will be able to tap into Queensland's vast array of high-quality sporting venues through the launch of a new digital sports venue platform, announced today by State Development and Infrastructure Minister Grace Grace.
'Sport Venues Connect' features an interactive map of international and national-standard venues across the state that provide idyllic training and competition opportunities for more than 80 sports.
Sports organisations are now able to search for world class pools, multisport courts, football fields, and more at the click of a button.
There are around 60 venues in the initial list, but venues in Queensland that want to be included can make an online submission to be added to the platform.
Connecting international and national teams with opportunities to train and host events in Queensland will boost tourism and local economies in the lead up to and beyond 2032.
From IAAF-standard running tracks on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef at the Townsville Sports Precinct, to university sporting hubs across South East Queensland that cater for multiple teams, users can filter by sport, facility options or location and enables direct liaison with venues to ensure their needs can be met.
Sport Venues Connect will expand over time to include a greater range of facilities and tourism opportunities near key venues, attracting more visitors to Queensland and bringing economic benefits to the local communities.
The new platform aligns with the mission of Elevate 2042: the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Strategy to make our region better, sooner, together through sport.
Hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games enables Queensland to attract new global business audiences, creating a $4.6 billion boost in tourism and trade for Queensland.
As stated by Minister for State Development and Infrastructure Grace Grace:
"The 2032 Games will provide a generational opportunity to transform our State culturally, economically, socially, and environmentally, and this platform is just one of the ways to help communities right across Queensland benefit.
"We have so many high-quality sporting venues ready for training camps and events, and this new platform will make it easier for international and domestic teams to find them and book them.
"Ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games we saw the Canadian boxing team train in Toowoomba, and the New Zealand hockey team based themselves in Cairns before heading to Tokyo in 2021, bringing a great boost to those cities.
"So, we're inviting teams to visit the Sunshine State for a taste of our superior weather, lifestyle and sporting venues - well before 2032.
"And we are calling on Queensland venues who want to be on the list to jump online and submit their details today."
As stated by Minister for Tourism and Sport Michael Healy:
"We are a great sporting state, and we want to make it as easy as possible for teams in the rest of Australia and the world to know it.
"Hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games enables Queensland to attract new global business audiences, creating a $4.6 billion boost in tourism and trade for Queensland.
"Some of that benefit will be from national and international teams holding events and training camps in sporting venues throughout Queensland, from the Gold Coast up to Cairns.
"This tool is a great way to make sure those teams can find their perfect spot and explore everything Queensland has to offer."

"With more than 50 venues of international standard already in Queensland, and more on the way well before the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Queensland has never been a better sporting destination.
"The Sport Venues Connect platform will create a highly valuable one stop shop for sporting facilities which will help communities all over Queensland capitalise on the opportunities in the lead up and long after the Games."
