St George Police charge three people, seize illicit drugs, pistol and $240,000 cash

A woman and two men will face court today charged by St George Police after officers seized drugs, more than $200,000 cash and a handgun as part of an investigation into drug supply in the local area.

In February 2020, officers from St George Police Area Command's Drug Unit established Strike Force Nanangroe to investigate the distribution of methamphetamine in the St George and Sutherland areas.

As part of inquiries, two men – aged 34 and 46 – were arrested and charged in April. They remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, strike force investigators – with the assistance of officers from Sutherland Police Area Command, Operation Odin, the Dog Unit, and Australian Border Force – executed four search warrants at two units at Hurstville, a house at Oatley, and a brothel at Caringbah about 7am yesterday (Thursday 18 June 2020).

During the searches, investigators seized a semi-automatic pistol, $40,000 cash, methylamphetamine (ice), MDMA, GBL and cannabis.

Police also located a safe under the floor at the Oatley property which contained $200,750.

A woman and man, both aged 40, were arrested at the Hurstville units.

The woman was taken to St George Police Station and charged with knowingly direct activities of criminal group, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of supply prohibited drug – indictable, supply prohibited drug, two counts of deal with property proceeds of crime, and organises/conducts/assists drug premises

The man was taken to Sutherland Police station and charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, two counts of supply prohibited drug, deal with property proceeds of crime, possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, and acquire pistol – subject to firearms prohibition order. Two outstanding warrants were also executed.

A 60-year-old man was arrested at the Oatley home and taken to St George Police Station.

He was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and supply prohibited drug – indictable.

All three were refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court later today (Friday 19 June 2020).

Investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.
