In February 2019 the first stage of moving Gumeracha's main street power lines underground was confirmed. Now we are pleased to share that the second stage of this project has also been approved to proceed.
Working with SA Power Networks, and with the support of the Power Line Environment Committee, this project will see an end result of 55 fewer stobie poles on the street, and 1.4km of power lines relocated underground.
Stage one of the project takes in Albert Street, Gumeracha, from Victoria Street to John Fisher Avenue. Now stage two confirms the ongoing project from John Fisher Avenue to Randall Terrace. The official start date is yet to be confirmed, but SA Power Networks expects to see the end result in December 2020.
The beautification of Gumeracha's main street, including lobbying to get powerlines put underground, has been a labour of love by community group the Gumeracha Main Street Project.
Community-led placemaking has also seen success through groups such as Imagine Uraidla and Love Woodside, and more dedicated locals are continuing to commence projects around the district.
