Residents in Goulburn have today welcomed the official opening of the second stage of the Wollondilly Walking and Cycling Track along the Wollondilly River.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor was joined by Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Bob Kirk to officially open stage two of the walking track.
"This project has allowed for a 1.5km extension of the walkway from Kenmore Street to Tarlo Road and the construction of a footbridge," Mr Taylor said
"With stage two of the walkway now complete, solar lighting installed along the entire length of the walkway and future stages still to come, this is a fantastic community asset for Goulburn residents and visitors to enjoy."
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Australian Government's $937,147 investment in community infrastructure would provide long term benefits to the Goulburn region.
"In addition to fostering a sense of community pride and protecting local heritage and culture, this investment will also produce long-term economic benefits to the region as it will attract visitors and stimulating growth in the local tourism industry," Mr McCormack said.
State Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman said the NSW Government's $363,417 contribution is from the Stronger Country Communities fund.
"I'm so pleased the State Government has committed funding to enable this project. The Wollondilly Walking Track is a wonderful asset for the Goulburn community."
"The project is a wonderful example of the combined efforts of all three levels of Government achieving a great outcome," said Mayor Bob Kirk.
"The river walkway has become perhaps our most well utilised community space; I'm pleased we have been able to unlock the Wollondilly River for our residents and visitors"
The $1.8 million project received funding from all three levels of government. The Australian Government contributed $937,147 under the Building Better Regions Fund. The NSW Government contributed $363,417 and Goulburn Mulwaree Council contributed $573,730.
