Paramedics are urging Victorians to celebrate safely and responsibly this New Year's Eve so they don't ring in 2025 in the back of an ambulance.
Ambulance Victoria (AV) Director of Emergency Management Dale Armstrong said end of year festivities can present many health and safety risks.
"While our paramedics across the state are ready to provide emergency care, personal responsibility is the best prevention this December 31," Dale said.
Paramedics are calling on the community to help save Triple Zero (000) calls for emergencies this NYE.
"If you plan on drinking alcohol, drink in moderation and be sure to have plenty of water between drinks.
"Every year we see people get themselves into trouble from drinking too much - whether it be assaults, alcohol poisoning, car accidents or injuring themselves from risk-taking behaviour.
"We also encourage everyone to stay away from recreational drugs.
"I urge all Victorians to be sensible, look after your own health and the safety of those around you."
Dale said it was important community members treated paramedics and other emergency service workers with respect.
"We have zero tolerance for threatening behaviour and assaults, and our paramedics will leave a scene if they feel unsafe," he said.
"For our paramedics to provide treatment to you or your loved one, they need a secure environment to work in.
"Remember to show all emergency service workers the respect they deserve."
With the forecast spike in demand, there will be increased resourcing across parts of the state, with extra paramedics on motorbikes and bicycles throughout the Melbourne CBD and surge resources in areas of population growth in regional locations.
Dale said the community can also help by saving Triple Zero (000) calls for emergencies.
"You can help our paramedics save lives by making use of alternative care pathways for everything else," he said.
There are lots of places to get health advice and care outside of Triple Zero (000) if it is not an emergency:

- Urgent Care Clinics can provide immediate healthcare for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

- Make an appointment with your GP or speak to a pharmacist.
