Sunraysia residents are encouraged to begin using their new green bins ahead of the start of Mildura Rural City Council's three-bin kerbside collection service next week.
The new service starts on Monday 6 July, ushering in a new era for sustainable waste management in our region.
From Monday 6 July, green bins will be collected weekly, meaning landfill (previously known as general rubbish) bins will move to fortnightly collection, alternating with recycling bin collection days.
Residents are encouraged to check their new bin collection schedule by visiting www.mildura.vic.gov.au and searching for 'green bin', or by downloading the Loddon Mallee Waste Info app.
Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said the new service would provide the convenience of kerbside organic waste collection, including food and green waste, for the first time in our region.
"This is an important step in terms of waste management for our region, adding another kerbside service, while significantly reducing the amount of waste our region contributes to landfill," Cr Cirillo said.
"With just days to go now before the new kerbside organics collection starts, residents should start using their green bins."
Full details on what should and shouldn't go in green bins is available on Council's website, as well as in the information packs which accompanied the delivery of residents' green bins.
