State Dept Hosts New Science Diplomacy Fellowship

Department of State

The U.S. Department of State is pleased to be a new host for the Science Diplomacy Fellowship of the National Science Policy Network (NSPN). This new program will complement other science and technology targeted programs at the Department, all of which bring scientific and technical experts into the foreign policy process. This opportunity further strengthens ties between the Department and the domestic scientific community and is the first to specifically target early career scientists, engineers, and technologists.

Advancements in science and technology are poised to define the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century. Through in-depth research and engagement with foreign policy professionals, the fellows will help increase understanding of complex, cutting-edge scientific and engineering fields, and provide recommendations on the wider international implications of important emerging scientific issues. In this capacity, they will bring valuable knowledge from their technical expertise and professional networks to bear on the work of the Department and, through the Department, to the broader science and technology community.

This new program with NSPN clearly expresses the Department of State's commitment to integrate science and technology policy as a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy.
