State Emergency Service Week Honors Volunteers

State Emergency Service (SES) Week is here!

SES Week is celebrated across Queensland from August 24 to 31 and is a chance to say thank you to the SES and to the outstanding volunteers dedicated to assisting the Queensland community around the clock, every day of the year.

Celebrations and awards ceremonies will kick off this weekend and occur across the state, culminating in the State Award Ceremony in Brisbane on August 31.

Awards include Regional Young Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Trainer of the Year and Operational Response of the Year, to name just a few.

Who is SES?

SES is a vital volunteer-based, community emergency support service.

With approximately 5, 000 volunteers across 76 units and 305 SES Groups, our 'Orange Army' of SES volunteers are always ready to respond to emergencies, no matter the time or place or conditions.

They provide emergency and rescue services to communities impacted by natural disasters and emergencies.

Additionally, they assist local councils and the community with non-life-threatening emergency situations during floods, storms or other local, State and National disasters and emergencies.

In the previous financial year, SES volunteers conducted more than 136 000 hours in operational tasking and over 333 000 hours in training, administration, public education, recruitment, fundraising and equipment maintenance.

What is the connection between QPS and SES?

Queensland Police Service (QPS) officially welcomed SES under our guidance and direction on June 3.

QPS and SES have always worked closely together and will continue to deliver more capable, connected and coordinated state disaster and emergency responses.
