Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) is proud to share the success of the past Council term with our community, through the delivery of the State of our Region and Annual Reports.
The two reports which were endorsed by Councillors at Thursday's Ordinary Meeting, detail the progress we have made to achieve significant outcomes for our community.
The State of our Region Report provides an overarching snapshot of the past two years and nine months, which was the term of the previous Council. The Report shows we have delivered 87 per cent of the 1500 Operational Plan actions aimed at meeting the priorities and expectations outlined of PMHC in the Imagine2050 Community Strategic Plan (CSP).
The CSP, developed in consultation with our community, is the guiding document for which our actions are benchmarked against. It represents the fundamental priorities that our community have asked of us.
The State of our Region, in combination with the Annual Report - which looks back at our achievements over the 2023/24 Financial Year where we delivered on 88 per cent of 508 actions against the CSP - showcases the strength of our organisation in putting our community's priorities first.
"Having been part of the previous Council that was committed to putting the needs of our community at the very top of the agenda, I am extremely pleased to see these figures reported to and endorsed by our newly elected Council," Mayor Adam Roberts said.
"Fundamentally, good government is about listening to, engaging with, and delivering on the expectations of our community. It is about ensuring that we are prioritising the needs of our community and recognising that our CSP is the gold standard to which we should be referring and reporting our actions against.
"I want to thank Councillors, and the organisation more broadly, in collectively achieving such a significant amount of work in what was a challenging period for all, highlighted by a number of major flooding events and a pandemic."
PMHC CEO Dr Clare Allen reaffirmed the mayor's comments, stating that the organisation was well positioned to continue building on the successes achieved.
"Despite a term of increased cost pressures and natural disasters, we've remained on track to deliver high-quality services to our community with the shared goal of moving towards becoming Australia's most liveable, sustainable and innovative place," Dr Allen said.
"We've advanced major infrastructure projects, including the $111 million Ocean Drive upgrade and the $250 million Cowarra Water Supply Scheme and Thrumster Wastewater Scheme – all crucial for supporting our growing community.
"Additionally, we've launched our Integrated Transport Plan to help reduce traffic, replace 13 high-priority bridges, expand sections of the Beach 2 Beach Pathway, and developed inclusive playgrounds and sporting facilities such as the Rainbow Beach Sporting Fields and Bain Park Playground.
"We've also adopted comprehensive strategies to tackle key issues in housing, water security, and the environment, including the Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy, and Living and Place Strategy.
"Moving forward into this new Council term, we are determined to build on our successes and tackle challenges head-on, in partnership with our community, to shape a brighter future for our region."
