State Takes Control of Lower Portland Ferry

Picture of Lower Portland FerryHawkesbury City Council and Transport for NSW have finalised the transfer of Lower Portland Ferry to State Government control.

The arrangement brings the ferry in line with all other ferries operating on the Hawkesbury River.

The transfer took place at 6am on Sunday 1 September. It follows years of advocacy work by Hawkesbury City and The Hills Shire councils, calling for the ferry to be managed by the State Government like the vast majority of ferries in NSW.

This change will consolidate all ferry services in the Hawkesbury and The Hills under a single authority, and it will also free up funds in the Council's budget for investment in other local infrastructure projects.
