State-wide Emergency Food Grant Fund Announced

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government has announced an Emergency Food Grant Fund following significant power outages across the state.

Tasmanian households who have gone without power for at least 72 hours will be eligible for payments of $350, providing much-needed financial assistance to those impacted by the recent weather.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff acknowledged the thousands of Tasmanians who have been without access to food, water, and essential items for several days.

"These have been very challenging circumstances, with many households having the contents of their fridge and freezers ruined by sustained power outages.

"With cost-of-living pressures challenging many household budgets, the unexpected expense of restocking the fridge and freezer will be difficult for many Tasmanians.

"This Emergency Food Grant Fund will go towards helping flood-affected Tasmanians re-purchase everyday supplies."

These payments are in addition to the Emergency Assistance Grants announced for residents in the Derwent Valley who have been isolated or forced to evacuate.

The Tasmanian Government continues to work with local councils on the impact on communities and businesses.

Premier Rockliff has also reached out to the Tasmanian Small Business Council to seek guidance on assistance needed to support small businesses that have been impacted by the weather.

Applications for the Emergency Food Relief Package can be made online via Department of Premier and Cabinet – Community grants.
