The business community today pays tribute to Greig Gailey, a former President of the Business Council of Australia and distinguished leader in the business community.
Mr Gailey was an active member of the BCA and a member of the BCA Board from 2005 - 2007. Mr Gailey was elected President of the BCA in 2007, serving a two year term. He was also Chairman of the Minerals Council of Australia between 2003 and 2005 as well as a Board member of the Australian Mines and Metals Association.
Mr Gailey joined Pasminco Limited in August of 2001 as Chief Executive Officer. The company went into Administration in September 2001 with debts in excess of $3 billion. Mr Gailey subsequently transformed the company which was relisted as Zinifex Limited on the Australian Stock Exchange in April 2004. Mr Gailey became CEO & Managing Director of Zinifex Limited from that date until standing down in June 2007.
Mr Gailey worked at the British Petroleum Company from 1964 to 1998 where he held various positions throughout Australia and offshore, including Managing Director, European Refining based in Brussels. Mr Gailey was CEO of Fletcher Challenge Energy between 1998 and 2001.
Mr Gailey was greatly respected for his deep and thoughtful contribution to public policy development in Australia, working closely with former Business Council CEO Katie Lahey during his time as President.
