Statement by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on Jordan 24 July

Washington, DC: Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today issued the following statement:

"I greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet today in Washington with King Abdullah II of Jordan. We discussed global and regional developments and the efforts of the Kingdom to achieve job-rich inclusive growth, preserve macroeconomic stability, and protect the poor, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. In this regard, I commended Jordan on its strong performance under the IMF-supported reform program, despite challenging circumstances.

"I also congratulated Jordan for its successful and inclusive national vaccination program that also covers refugees. Continued donor support remains crucial to help Jordan's reform efforts as well as to shoulder the disproportionate burden in hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees."
