Colac Otway Shire Council congratulates Joe McCracken on being elected to the Legislative Council for the Western Victoria Region.
Mayor Chris Potter thanked Mr McCracken for his years of service with Colac Otway Shire Council.
"On behalf of Councillors I'd like to thank Joe for his commitment to the Colac Otway community during his six years of service with Council.
"Joe was elected to Council in 2016 and served as a Councillor before being elected Mayor in 2017 at the age of 29, then Deputy Mayor from 2018 to 2020.
"During Joe's time on Council he has been a strong advocate for this region, he's always taken the time to listen to community members and put forward ideas to Council he believed to have been in the best interest of Colac Otway.
"We're certain that Joe will take this drive and dedication to his role as Liberal Member for Western Victoria," Cr Potter said.
The election of Joe McCracken to the Legislative Council December creates an extraordinary vacancy within Colac Otway Shire Council.
CEO Anne Howard said the extraordinary vacancy would be filled through a countback conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).
"The VEC will provide information on where and when the countback to fill the extraordinary vacancy on Colac Otway Shire Council will be conducted.
"The VEC will also announce the successful candidate elected to Council," Ms Howard said.
