The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is actively preparing the rail network in anticipation of Cyclone Alfred, which is expected to impact Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
In response to forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds beginning at midnight on Wednesday, we have mobilised crews and resources along the NSW/Qld north coast rail corridor.
We are particularly concerned about the potential for significant wind gusts that could down trees, as well as the heavy rainfall that may lead to substantial flooding in the area.
ARTC is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with our weather information provider to assess the latest data.
Decisions regarding any potential closures of the NSW/Qld north coast corridor will be made in accordance with our extreme weather policy.
We are also in communication with our customers, and we are working alongside emergency services and state transport agencies as the situation develops.
We will continue to provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the rail network.
