Statement On Visit By Chinese Premier

Comments attributable to Acting CEO, Charlie Thomas

The National Farmers' Federation welcomes Chinese Premier Li Qiang's visit to Australia.

Strong and cooperative relationships with our international markets and partners is critically important.

China is Australian agriculture's largest trading partner, both at a whole of sector level and for many individual commodities.

The NFF is pleased with dialogue held at today's Annual Leaders meeting. This includes the two countries' commitment to key multilateral economic forums including the World Trade Organization and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, as well as the signing of Memorandum of Understandings including on the Australia-China Strategic Economic Dialogue and Further Enhancing the Implementation of China-Australia Free Trade Agreement

We reiterate our thanks to the Federal Government, including the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Ministers Don Farrell, Penny Wong and Murray Watt for their considered approach to Australia's relationships with our international partners. Such an approach has been critical in efforts to restore trading access for Australian barley, wine and beef sectors.
