Stephen R. Master, MD, PhD Begins Term as President of American Association for Clinical Chemistry

Stephen R. Master, MD, PhD, Division Chief for Laboratory Medicine and Director of Metabolic and Advanced Diagnostics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), has begun his term as President of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), a role he will occupy from August 2021 until July 2022. Dr. Master has served as AACC's president-elect since last August.

"As president of this organization, I look forward to further advancing the role of laboratory medicine in improving the care patients receive, both here at CHOP and in health care settings across the globe."

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Master served in a variety of roles within AACC, including as Chair of the Proteomics and Metabolomics Division, vice-chair of the Annual Meeting Organizing Committee, and, most recently, as a member of the Board of Directors. He has received several awards from AACC for his work, including "Outstanding Speaker" awards in 2012 and 2015 and the Division Achievement Award for "Advancing the Profession" in 2013. He is also on the editorial board of several high-impact journals related to the field, including Clinical Chemistry, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Proteomics, and Clinical Mass Spectrometry. In addition to his work at CHOP, Dr. Master is Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

The organization comprises approximately 8,000 members and reaches more than 50,000 individuals around the world, including clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists, and business leaders.
