Stolen Motor Vehicle At Tennant Creek

The Northern Territory Police Force are investigating a stolen motor vehicle incident that occurred in Tennant Creek early yesterday morning.

Around 2.15am, offenders allegedly unlawfully entered a business on Brown Street in Tennant Creek, resulting in a small truck being stolen. The stolen truck was allegedly used to ram through the locked gates of the business, causing significant damage.

The offenders drove north on the Stuart Highway before heading east on the Barkly Highway. They stopped at a roadhouse on the Barkly Highway and allegedly stole a quantity of alcohol before fleeing east towards the Queensland border in the stolen motor vehicle.

Avon Downs Police attempted to apprehend the vehicle, which failed to stop, and Queensland Police were contacted for assistance as the vehicle crossed the border. The offenders subsequently pulled over on a side road just east of Camooweal in QLD and the fled into nearby scrubland.

Queensland Police deployed a helicopter and a police dog, and together with NTPF officers, four male adults and one male youth were arrested and taken into custody. One male adult offender remains outstanding.

Investigations into the offending remain ongoing.

Superintendent Katie Hatzismalis said, "This was an excellent combined policing effort with our partners across the border in Queensland.

"I commend the collaborative work by all involved to apprehend these offenders and thank Queensland Police for their support.

"Anyone with information about these incidents are urged to contact police on 131 444."
