Stonnington joins Sport4All program

'Change your club. Change your school' is the driving phrase behind the new Sport4All program which aims to change the way we think about disability when it comes to sport in our community.

Stonnington City Council is proud to be one of six local Victorian governments to join the Sport4All pilot program, which has been commissioned and funded by the Australian Government in collaboration with Sports Australia and is delivered by Get Skilled Access – a Disability Owned Business Enterprise founded by Paralympic Gold Medallist and Grand Slam champion Dylan Alcott.

Sport4All aims to support clubs and schools in becoming more confident and capable in welcoming people with a disability to participate in sport across a range of skills and abilities – whether as players, coaches, umpires, volunteers, or spectators.

City of Stonnington Access & Inclusion Officer, Jeremy O'Sullivan says, "I am really excited to be leading this program for the Stonnington community. It will give people with a disability choice to participate in sport in a way that has not been possible before."

Jeremy will be working with local sporting clubs and schools to help them establish a welcoming environment based on the Social model of disability, which is based on removing the barriers that restrict choices for people with a disability.

The City of Stonnington is hosting three webinar events that will provide insight into how our community can learn to be more inclusive through adoption and adaptation. The three sessions will be held online as follows:

  • Session 1: Introducing the Sport4All Training Platform – Wednesday, 8 September
  • Session 2: A Conversation with Paralympians – Wednesday, 13 October
  • Session 3: Coaching Para-Sports – Wednesday, 10 November.

"Educating clubs and schools how to overcome inclusion challenges and become more accessible will enable people with a disability to have choice and control over where and how they would like to participate in sport," added Jeremy.
