Award-winning author Sandhya Parappukkaran presented a special all ages story time session at Wagga Wagga City Library on Tuesday, 21 January. The event was made possible with the support from the State Library of NSW and the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund.
Sandhya writes stories which are inspired by her childhood experiences, traversing diverse cultures and encouraging her readers to embrace and celebrate their cultural identity.
Manager Library Services Christine Bolton said scrumptious food and glimpses of nature inspired by her Kerala Indian heritage feature heavily in Sandhya's work.
"It was wonderful for Sandhya to visit and read with us, and a great opportunity for regional children to meet an author in person." Ms Bolton said.
"The event also featured a delicious Indian inspired morning tea!"
Sandhya is a huge fan of libraries.
"I was the child who maxed out her library card every week," she said.
"I am a writer today, because I am a reader. And, I am reader because of public libraries."
Sandhya still makes a weekly visit to her local library.
"The benefits of reading for pleasure are tremendous. I'm always encouraging people to find their local library and get a library card!"
Regular Storytime returns on Wednesday 5 February, but for those who cannot wait you can catch a Sunshine Storytime session at Riverside on January 23 commencing at 9.30am.
The session will include everything you already love about Storytime, picture books, songs, and craft with the great outdoors included as a free extra!
SAL - the Suburban Agile Library van - will also be in attendance, so you can browse, borrow, return, and make reservations.
