Murrindindi Shire Council is pleased to present its draft Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan and is calling on residents, road users, and visitors to comment on this important document.
The Strategy adopts the National Road Safety Strategy's commitment to achieve zero deaths and reduce serious injuries on our roads by 2050. It aims to halve the number of road fatalities by 2030 (compared to the 2015-2019 period) and reduce the number of serious injury crashes by 30 per cent.
From August to October 2023, Council engaged the community to seek input to help plan for future road safety measures across the Shire. Community feedback was used to frame the discussion around road safety in the Shire, and to develop the draft Strategy and Action Plan.
Council received valuable feedback regarding road safety via a survey, three in-person community sessions and targeted online focus group sessions. There were over 500 visits to the online project web page, highlighting the significance of road safety within Murrindindi Shire. This feedback helped identify some key themes such as improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians, improving visibility, especially at night, reducing speed limits in high-risk areas, and the overall maintenance and improvement of our roads.
