The City of Hobart will again host the "Street to Stage" event, an innovative project that showcases the live performance talents of individuals experiencing or recovering from housing stress or homelessness.

This event, held during Homelessness Week, will also serve as a fundraiser for the Health with Dignity project, which provides free General Practitioner visits for people in extreme need.

If you enjoy live music and want to support people experiencing or recovering from homelessness, this event is for you.

Musicians of all types, including bands, buskers, soloists, rappers, spoken word artists, improv performers, and instrumentalists, are encouraged to participate.

There are no auditions, and it is free to perform.

Performers will have the chance to win amazing prizes, including a free recording session at MONA's Frying Pan Studios, sponsored by the City of Hobart.

Local artists Monique Brumby and Tash Zappala will also deliver guest performances.

The "Street to Stage" event raises funds for Health with Dignity, a groundbreaking initiative of the City of Hobart Housing with Dignity Reference Group.

Delivered in partnership with The Salvation Army and supported by the Hobart Airport Community Fund, this project ensures free access to a local GP for those in extreme need.

The City of Hobart has contributed $30,000, and the Hobart Airport Community Fund has contributed $15,000 to kickstart Health with Dignity.

Join us for this exciting event and help us raise funds for Health with Dignity as we celebrate local culture and support equitable opportunities for marginalised individuals.

This event aligns with the City of Hobart's dedicated winter campaign, "Warm Hearts and Cool Adventures", designed to advocate for those in need during the winter months.

Street to Stage will be held at Youth ARC, 1 Market Place, Saturday, 10 August 2024 from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

Quotes to be attributed to Hobart Deputy Lord Mayor Dr Zelinda Sherlock:

"Street to Stage is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and support those who are facing significant challenges.

"By attending this event, you can enjoy fantastic live music while contributing to a cause that makes a real difference in people's lives.

"While this initial funding has been vital, with 4-5 people a week accessing the funds, it obviously won't last forever.

"We encourage everyone to come along on the day, make a donation, and support talented people who are working hard to support themselves.

"Health with Dignity is an Australia-first initiative that ensures vulnerable individuals have access to essential healthcare services.

"We're proud to support this project and are grateful for the community's involvement in helping us sustain it."

Quotes to be attributed to Salvation Army's Amelia Natoli:

"Health with Dignity supports people in Greater Hobart to access vital General Practitioner services, which they otherwise could not afford.

"This access to a GP ensures the immediate health needs of community members, particularly those experiencing financial hardship or homelessness, are addressed.

"All donations from the Street to Stage event go directly to Health with Dignity.

"We are extremely grateful for the community's support, which will help ensure this vital service can continue."
