Streetscape upgrades re-energise Lalor's hidden gem

Rochdale Square in Lalor has been transformed into a family‑friendly community hub, thanks to a partnership between the City of Whittlesea and the Victorian Government.

City of Whittlesea Administrator Peita Duncan was joined this week by The Hon. Shaun Leane, Minister for Local Government, Suburban Development and Veterans, to mark the official opening of the redeveloped park and shopping precinct.

The new-look Rochdale Square now includes a fun-filled playground, picnic settings, barbecues and shelters, providing the perfect detour on your next visit to the popular shopping strip.

The streetscape upgrade also included repaving and widening the footpaths, new outdoor seating and lush new greenery, breathing new life into this local treasure.

City of Whittlesea Administrator Peita Duncan said that the upgrade of Rochdale Square has created a welcoming space for residents to shop local and socialise, while keeping the kids entertained.

"We're delighted that the improvements to Rochdale Square are helping to support the hard-working local businesses, many of which have been affected by long closures throughout the COVID-19 pandemic." Ms Duncan said.

"It's heartening to see how the redevelopment has re-energised the area and enabled residents to connect with their community close to home."

For local business owner Alex Morgan from Buddhas Essence of Healing, the park and streetscape improvements have created a more inviting space for families and customers.

"The upgrades have definitely freshened up the area and given it a whole new peaceful energy. Rochdale Square has a great community atmosphere," Alex said.
