Two men have been charged after being arrested in an allegedly-stolen SUV at Penrith overnight.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers attached to Strike Force Puma have been investigating the theft of an SUV from Colyton in late August, and the subsequent sightings of the stolen vehicle being driven around western Sydney last week.
About 2.30am today (Sunday 15 September 2024), police received information that the vehicle had been sighted in the car park of a fast-food outlet in Penrith North.
Strike Force Puma officers, assisted by officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command, attended the scene and arrested two men without incident.
Police will allege in court the stolen vehicle was also fitted with numerous fake number plates. It has been towed for forensic examination.
The men, aged 34 and 41, were taken to Penrith Police Station where they have now been charged.
The younger man, from Bucca, has been charged with
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and
- Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed.
An arrest warrant for the man for the offence of deal with property proceeds of crime was also executed.
The older man, from St Marys, has been charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
Both men have been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 15 September 2024).
