Strike Force Raptor seize firearms and explosives during FPO search near Dubbo, NSW

Dozens of charges have been laid after firearms, explosives, and ammunition were seized during a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) search at a property near Dubbo yesterday, NSW Police say.

Police from the Gangs Squad’s Strike Force Raptor have been working with local area commands across the state to proactively target Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) members and their associates.

With the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad, police from Strike Force Raptor and Orana Local Area Command served an FPO on a 64-year-old man at a rural property on Minore Road, Minore, about 6.10am yesterday.

During a search of the property, police located and seized 18 firearms, parts for another 11 firearms, 20kg of gunpowder, 3kg of detonator cord, five detonators, a blast grenade and other military ordnance, an electronic stun device, and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition.

The 64-year-old man was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with a total of 61 offences.

The charges include 14 counts each of possess unregistered firearm and not ensure safe keeping of firearm; four counts each of possess prohibited firearm, possess unregistered prohibited firearm, and not ensure safe keeping of prohibited firearm; two counts of handle explosives without permit, and possess prohibited weapon, possess prohibited military weapon, possess ammunition and possess firearm barrel/parts.

He was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court earlier today, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court at a later date.

Investigations are continuing.

Strike Force Raptor was established by State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad in 2009. It is a proactive and high-impact operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs and any associated criminal enterprises.
