About 10pm, it will be alleged the man set fire to several areas of dry grass and foliage in a reserve located on Templetonia Promenade, before walking away.
Members of the Western Australia Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the location and extinguished the flames before they were able to cause further damage to bushland or spread to nearby private properties which surround the reserve.
Approximately 50 square metres of foliage and bushland were destroyed.
The 26-year-old man from Heathridge has been charged with:
• One count of Wilfully Light or Cause to be Lit a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage.
He is due to appear before the Mandurah Magistrates Court today, 27 December 2024. This offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment.
