Scores of people have taken the opportunity to share their vision for the future of Corangamite Shire.
Council hosted two Community Conversation sessions on Wednesday 12 March for people to provide input to the new Council Plan, Community Vision and other key documents.
About 90 people attended across the two sessions, and Council hopes more people will contribute via an online survey.
Mayor Cr Kate Makin said it was pleasing to see a strong turnout at the sessions, with people sharing ideas on a wide range of topics.
"It was an informative and positive experience, and we appreciated the opportunity to listen to people who are passionate about living in Corangamite Shire.
"All these ideas and feedback will guide Council decisions and activities over the next four years and beyond."
Council is encouraging people who were unable to attend the conversation sessions to take five minutes to fill out an online survey at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/Conversation2025
"We've had a good response so far, particularly from over-50s, but we're keen to hear from younger people, as well as residents from smaller communities," Cr Makin said.
"Having diverse views will help us plan for the whole community's needs," she said.
Cr Makin said key themes were emerging through the consultation.
"People are telling us that they love living in Corangamite Shire, and they want to keep living here at all stages of their life. This could include aged care and seniors housing options, as well as affordable housing for workers," she said.
"People want access to health services, public transport and a variety of businesses and services.
"And they want to protect and enhance our natural environment, tree-lined streets and rural landscapes."
Council will draw on the forums and survey responses while developing the Council Plan and updated Community Vision. Responses will also feed into important documents like our Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan, structure plans and a review of the shire's Local Laws.
"In coming months we'll share draft plans for community feedback. I encourage you all to keep an eye out for these and take the chance to comment again," Cr Makin said.
"Together, we can create a thriving future for Corangamite Shire," she said.
