Student Ombudsman Delivers Positive Results

The Universities Accord (National Student Ombudsman) Bill 2024 is an important step towards ensuring university students are fully supported throughout their studies.

"We've worked closely with the Government on this important legislation, so we welcome its passage through the Parliament," Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.

"Our universities are committed to delivering the best experience possible for all students.

"The National Student Ombudsman forms part of a broader action plan to address sexual harm and complements the objectives of Universities Australia's Charter on Sexual Harm and the many existing initiatives our universities have in place.

"Sexual harm is completely unacceptable and our sector, like every sector of Australian society, has a role to play in addressing this problem. That is what students deserve.

"The role of the National Student Ombudsman will extend well beyond dealing with sexual harm and we look forward to a constructive dialogue with Ms Sarah Bendall and the Government to ensure students are protected without creating additional regulatory burdens on universities."
