Students across the Snowy Monaro region have participated in a series of engaging environmental education workshops, thanks to a partnership between Snowy Monaro Regional Council and Keep Australia Beautiful NSW's EnviroMentors program.

The initiative, which took place earlier in 2024, saw 270 students from five local schools dive into interactive sessions on recycling, composting, and waste reduction. The program aims to inspire young minds to become environmental stewards in their homes and communities.

'We're thrilled with the positive response from our local schools. The EnviroMentors program aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering sustainable practices in our region,' said Aimee Moy, Education Engagement Officer at Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

Participating schools included Delegate Public School, St Joseph's Primary School Bombala, Bombala Public School, Nimmitabel Public School, and Michelago Public School. Each school selected workshops tailored to their needs, covering topics such as recycling, composting, worm farming, and the journey from garbage to garden.

School feedback on these recent EnviroMentors workshops has been overwhelmingly positive, with staff from participating institutions praising the program's blend of environmental education and hands-on learning.

Teachers also highlighted the age-appropriate content and effective use of resources, with many noting that students were eager to share their new knowledge at home. The workshops incorporated games, kinaesthetic learning, and interactive props to make complex environmental concepts accessible to young minds.

The success of this year's program has prompted discussions about expanding its reach in the coming years, potentially including more schools in the region.
