International Education Minister David Templeman today celebrated the achievements of 26 students as part of the Indonesian Sponsored Students - Explore WA event held at the StudyPerth Student Hub.
The 26 Indonesian students were supported by the Western Australian and Indonesian Governments to complete a semester in WA as part of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarship program.
The West Australian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Consortium (WATVC) has been working over the past year with the Ministry of Education and Culture in Indonesia to assist with the formation of their own TVET Consortium comprised of 13 Indonesian polytechnics.
Administered by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the IISMA was one of the first initiatives delivered by the consortium.
Led by the WATVC, Western Australia's international education sector has engaged with the consortium to bring the students to the State.
The IISMA scholarship program has supported 400 students from across Indonesia to study a semester abroad, with 52 students choosing Australia.
During Semester 2, 2022, the Indonesian students in WA undertook studies at several education providers, including:
- North Metropolitan TAFE;
- The University of Western Australia;
- Curtin University;
- Murdoch University; and
- Phoenix Academy.
WATVC has received funding of $3 million from the WA Government in the 2022-23 Budget to build and promote international education and training opportunities in WA.

"With half of the scholarship recipients who came to Australia as part of this program choosing WA to complete their studies, it is proof our State is the destination of choice for many international students.
"This is a great collaborative achievement for the State's international education sector and a testament to the WA TVET Consortium for its efforts to promote Western Australia as a high-quality study destination."
