In the latest university ranking by Times Higher Education, several disciplines at the University of Würzburg perform excellently. 'A strong signal,' says President Paul Pauli.
The "World University Ranking by Subjects," published annually by Times Higher Education (THE), is one of the most prestigious university rankings worldwide and offers a detailed evaluation of academic disciplines. Based on comprehensive analyses of data on research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and international orientation, the ranking provides insights into the strengths and performances of universities across eleven specific disciplines.
JMU Maintains Strong Position in Life Sciences
In 2025, JMU will still be among the top eleven percent of universities worldwide in the field of Life Sciences. Within Germany, JMU is among the top eleven institutions and ranks third in Bavaria, behind the two major Munich universities.
Particularly impressive is the performance indicator "Research Quality." Here, JMU secures first place in Germany (16th worldwide) with a score of 96.1 out of 100 possible points. This result highlights the excellent achievements of JMU's researchers in the Life Sciences, which include disciplines such as Biology, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology.
Continued Success in Medicine and Psychology
The fields of Medicine and Psychology have also achieved outstanding rankings. In both disciplines, JMU improved its standing compared to 2024, now placing among the top 150 universities worldwide. Particularly impressive are the results in industry revenue and patents: Medicine achieved the highest possible score of 100 points, while Psychology also delivered an exceptional performance with 98.4 points.
Physics and Informatics also with Top Performances
In Physics, JMU ranks among the top 15 percent of universities worldwide, once again demonstrating its excellence and international competitiveness. Würzburg's informatics made notable progress in the "Research Quality" indicator, advancing into the ranking group of the world's top 175 universities in the discipline "Computer Science" - a remarkable achievement underscoring the field's innovative strength.
