Engineering and law lead impressive performance in THE World University Rankings by Subject 2025
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has performed strongly in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2025, released on Wednesday (22 January 2025).
UOW ranked among the top 200 universities in the world for five of the 11 subject categories, and among the top 300 in a further five subjects, reflecting the quality of the University's teaching and research across a broad diversity of academic areas.
Acting Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Eileen McLaughlin said the rankings spoke to the strength of UOW's teaching and research programs.
"These rankings are a testament to the dedication and excellence of our academics, researchers, and students," Professor McLaughlin said.
"To see the University of Wollongong ranked so highly across such a diverse range of disciplines reaffirms our commitment to providing world-class education and impactful research.
"The results reflect the University's strong focus on innovation and real-world impact, as well as our collaborative partnerships with industry and the wider community"
UOW's highest rankings came in law and engineering, which were both in the top 125 worldwide (and both ranked =8th in Australia), followed by education studies (top 150 globally, =12th in Australia), psychology and physical sciences (both in the top 200 globally).
UOW ranked in the top 250 in the world for business and economics, and in the top 300 for medical and health, computer science and for social sciences. Arts and humanities ranked in the top 400 in the world.
The THE World University Rankings by Subject tables are based on 13 performance indicators grouped into five categories: teaching; research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (innovation).
