Submissions considered for annual LGAQ conference

A review of crocodile and shark management is one of 11 motions Council will consider for submission to the 125th LGAQ Annual Conference, which is to be held in Mackay on 25-27 October 2021.

The annual conference brings together Councils from all parts of the state for professional development and networking, and to debate issues of importance to their communities.

Council has submitted 11 draft motions, which address a range of issues affecting the region, including social housing, water and wastewater funding, pandemic response, insurance costs, and adapting to climate change.

Draft motions being considered are:

Motion 1: Insurance and financing to address coastal hazard risks for community resilience.

Motion 2: Capacity building for the procurement of low emissions products and services.

Motion 3: Social and affordable housing – interim measures to reduce housing stress for vulnerable residents.

Motion 4: Provision of personal protective equipment to maintain essential front-line social services in pandemics.

Motion 5: Queensland Government investment in COVID-19 social resilience research.

Motion 6: Far North Queensland Principal Cycling Network Plan.

Motion 7: Development of a dedicated funding program/s for water and wastewater infrastructure.

Motion 8: Continuation of the Regional Recycling Transport Assistance Program.

Motion 9: Waste Levy cost implications for local government.

Motion 10: Body corporate fees and sale of land issue.

Motion 11: Ongoing management of crocodiles and assessment of shark risks.

The above resolution needs to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 25 August 2021.
