Firefighters from CFA and FFMVic have completed a successful burn-out activity following a fire that broke out at the Lower Murray Treatment plant on Sunday evening.

Firefighters were called to reports of a column of black smoke at 7.24pm on Sunday 3 January 2021.
Eight CFA fire trucks and volunteer firefighters from Red Cliffs, Irymple, Mildura and Merbein responded to the fire, which had broken out on a parcel of land at the Lower Murray Water waste treatment plant in Thurla-Benetook Avenue, Koorlong.
The fire was brought under control within an hour but could not be completely extinguished due to a high risk of dangerous trees. Firefighters monitored the fire overnight.
The following day (Monday 4 January), a plan was devised to burn out the area to extinguish the remain fire.
CFA District 18 Rostered Duty Officer, Commander Mick Sporton said bulldozers had been used to create mineral earth breaks around the area before CFA and FFMVic firefighters conducted burn-out activities that were successfully concluded around midnight. Several fire trucks were on the scene as a safeguard. Personnel from Lower Murray Water monitored the scene overnight.
Commander Sporton said dangerous trees and shrub had now been removed from the area. He said a few logs are still smouldering and smoke is expected to be visible in the area over the next 48 hours.
