Two people have been successfully rescued from a remote location near Cocklebiddy, following a large-scale land search operation involving Eucla and Norseman Police, Police Air Wing and the Emergency Operations Unit.
About 10.50am on Friday 10 May 2024, Eucla Police – with assistance from Norseman Police – responded when a personal locator beacon was activated about 20km south south-west of Cocklebiddy, between Caiguna and Eucla.
Following inquiries, it was established the activation was linked to a male and female – both aged in their 50s – who were travelling in a white Ford Ranger utility.
Officers were unable to access the area due to recent heavy rain and the search was suspended, with plans put in place to resume the operation on Saturday 11 May 2024, utilising the services of Police Air Wing.
About 11.35am on Saturday 11 May 2024, Police Air Wing located the Ford, which had become bogged on a remote track.
Police Air Wing officers contacted the male driver of the Ford, and after communicating the location of the vehicle to Eucla Police, officers attended and assisted in extracting the Ford from the mud.
The man and woman were uninjured and in good health.
Police would like to thank the community – especially staff at the Cocklebiddy Roadhouse – for their assistance during the incident.
