Health Minister Roger Cook has today announced Western Australian company BGC Construction Pty Ltd will deliver the main works portion of the Albany Health Campus radiation oncology project.
These critical works will include site preparations to safely house the complex machinery and will generate more than 50 local jobs.
Additionally, an expanded car park with 70 bays is now already available, helping to alleviate congestion from verges and side streets surrounding the campus.
The next phase of works includes construction of the main building as well as a dedicated corridor to link the Albany Health Campus and additional car parking bays to the facility.
Once complete, the $13.1 million project will provide Great Southern residents with access to lifesaving cancer treatment closer to home and on country.
The service is expected to be completed in the second half of 2022.
As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:
"The McGowan Government is another step closer to delivering lifesaving radiation oncology services in the Great Southern region.
"More than 50 local jobs will be generated through the main works program set to be delivered by BGC.
"We know the community are heavily invested in this project and we want to see it up and running as soon as possible."
As stated by Albany MLA-elect Rebecca Stephens:
"Being able to remain close to family, friends and broader support networks while undergoing treatment will improve the patient journey for Great Southern cancer patients.
"This not only delivers on our commitment to care close to home but builds upon the WA Country Health Service's Cancer Strategy 2017-22.
"I'm also pleased that patients and visitors to Albany Health Campus can already now benefit from the extra parking as part of this project - difficulty in parking at the hospital has been raised with me previously so I'm glad to see steps taken to improve this."
