A Sudan-born man appeared before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today (13 February, 2025), charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.
The man, 28, was arrested today (13 February, 2025) after he was located in Melbourne.
It was alleged he breached conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations and failing to maintain his electronic monitoring device.
The man has been charged with:
- Six counts of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act (Cth); and
- One count of failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions relating to an electronic monitoring device, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act (Cth).
The matter is next in court on 22 May, 2025.
Each of these offences carry a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
