City's leaders elected for the next 12 months
Councillors last night elected the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga who will lead Council through to the next NSW Local Government elections in September 2024.
Councillor Dallas Tout was again elected the Mayor and Councillor Amelia Parkins was elected the Deputy Mayor for the first time, replacing outgoing Deputy Mayor Councillor Jenny McKinnon.
Both positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor were uncontested, and Cr Tout and Cr Parkins were unanimously voted in to their respective roles by the Councillors.
The NSW Local Government elections will be held on 14 September 2024.

Mayor's authority approved
Council has agreed to delegate authority to the Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga for certain functions.
This is considered to be both appropriate and necessary to ensure the position of Mayor has the relevant authority to undertake the role effectively and in the best interests of the community.
RP-2 DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY TO THE MAYOR
Proposed development control plan amendment for enterprise corridor zone
Council has endorsed a draft amendment to the Wagga Wagga Development Control Plan (DCP) applying to an Enterprise Corridor Zone in East Wagga Wagga being placed on public exhibition.
The zone incorporates land along the Sturt Highway, between Tasman Road and Gumly Gumly, known as Precinct 7 in the DCP.
The proposed amendment would be beneficial in assisting persons carrying out development in this area in navigating the planning framework and ensuring that the strategic intent of the area is realised.
The draft amendment will be on public exhibition for a period of 28 days from 8 September 2023 and public submissions are invited until 6 October 2023

Tolland Renewal Project package
Council resolved to place the draft Tolland Concept Masterplan on public exhibition for a period.
The NSW Department of Planning and Environments' Land and Housing Corporation, NSW Argyle Housing, Council and other stakeholders prepared a high-level masterplan for the renewal of Tolland Estate.
The aim of the Masterplan is to renew social, affordable and private homes, and deliver enhanced open spaces and community infrastructure.
To ensure the Tolland Concept Masterplan (once adopted) is enforceable, a clause will be included in the Wagga Wagga Development Control Plan (DCP). This clause will require future DAs in the renewal area to consider the Masterplan in their application.
The draft Tolland Concept Masterplan will be placed on public exhibition for 42 days to seek community feedback before being finalised and adopted by Council as the vision for the renewal area moving forward.
The public exhibition and submission period is Monday 11 September to 24 October 2023.
RP-4 TOLLAND RENEWAL PROJECT PACKAGE
Funding to support major events in the city.
Council agreed to sponsor the following events and festivals under it 2023/24 Major Events and Sponsorship Program:
- Mardi Gras Wagga Wagga Festival 2024 for the amount of $20,000.
- Gears & Beers Festival for three years - 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26 for the amount of $20,000 each year.
- TEDxWagga Wagga event for the amount of $10,000.
Council declined a sponsorship application from Bidgee Strawberries and Cream as the applicant is already in receipt of Council funding of $6,000 for a similar event series.

Council resolved to accept the Tender of Maxwood Technology Australia Limited for the provision of on court seating at Wagga Wagga Exhibition Centre Multipurpose Stadium, Council's MPS.
