Tasmania's Summer Racing Festival is nearly at the halfway mark, with Devonport the latest regional area to feature.
Minister for Racing, Jane Howlett, said today's Devonport Cup was a great advertisement for the exciting social experiences that can be had in Tasmania.
"The Summer Racing Festival provides an important social and economic boost for Tasmania," Minister Howlett said.
"It is important not only for the racing industry, but also for the hospitality, tourism and small business sectors that are supported indirectly through these events.
"Tasmania has a fantastic racing product and through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we are supporting the industry to employ Tasmanians.
"The Government welcomes the new partnership between Tasracing, the Tasmanian Racing Club, Tasmanian Turf Club and the Devonport Racing Club, as well as the Federal Group which will support the growth of the Summer Racing Festival and assist in developing it into an "must-do" for mainland visitors, triggering them with a reason to visit by offering new and exciting experiences for their social calendar.
"Tasmania in summer is a truly national racing and hospitality destination."
Minister Howlett said 2025 will be a transformative year for the racing industry in Tasmania.
"The Tasmanian Government continues to raise the bar, delivering on the biggest reforms to the racing industry in decades and appointing the first Racing Integrity Commissioner, Sean Carroll," she said.
"These reforms, under the Racing Regulation and Integrity Act 2024, are based on evidence and industry best practice, and come into effect on 1 February.
"We will continue to work with the racing community to improve the industry and we are delivering on a stronger future for thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in Tasmania."
The Devonport Cup is just one of the thoroughbred events that takes part during the Ladbrokes Summer Racing Festival, which runs from 27 November – 26 February.
