Sunny Smiles At Nature Play Day

Our inaugural Nature Play Day was a popular affair during Easter school holidays this week, with around 80 children and their guardians gathering at Alexandra Gardens to take part in the variety of nature-themed activities.

Attendees made masquerade masks decorated with feathers, oak leaves, gum nuts and petals; using a crafted cloud 'viewfinder' to identify cirrus, cumulus, and stratus clouds; getting involved in a large painting station with a huge canvas spread out on the ground for everyone to paint; stopping at the weaving station, where kids used long strands of flexible gum branches, leaves and flower stems to create a fairy shelter; and getting messy at the popular 'clay play' station.

The Community Garden played host to the scavenger hunt, in which kids were challenged to find twelve objects around the grounds including a seed pod, a bee, a mosaic pot, some lavendar, and a ceramic ornament of a pumpkin - the most difficult object to find, nestled amongst the many real pumpkins growing in vines across the garden.

Council wish to thank all attendees for their infectious enthusiasm, ensuring Nature Play Day was a joy for all. Special thanks go to volunteers Brenda and Juana, as well as the wonderful efforts of TAMA and Council staff.

There are still many activities left on the Easter school holidays calendar, including Movie Monday (at the library) and Paint What You Hear at the Town Hall (check ararattownhall.com.au for session times), both on Monday April 14; Easter Craft at the library on April 16; and an extended Lego Session on April 17 (also at Ararat Library).

Check the 'Events' page on Council's site for all the details.
