Queensland Rail Acting CEO Scott Riedel:
Queensland Rail is advising customers that due to severe weather conditions, buses will continue to replace trains on the Sunshine Coast line this afternoon.
Localised flooding has resulted in water over the tracks at several locations and is preventing access to the derailed third-party freight train between Traveston and Cooran stations.
Safety is Queensland Rail's top priority and teams will commence recovery including the removal of the train and the repair of any damage when it is safe to do so.
As more severe weather is predicted over the coming days, it's likely the Sunshine Coast line won't return to normal operations for some days.
In the meantime, for the rest of today, rail replacement buses are operating between Caboolture and Gympie North stations.
From tomorrow, the Caboolture to Nambour section will re-open, with buses to remain in place between Nambour and Gympie North stations.
We ask customers to please allow an additional 60 minutes of travel time for their journey.
Queensland Rail's long-distance travel services have also been impacted by the closure.
Tilt Trains scheduled to depart today and tomorrow will be replaced with buses between Gympie North and Roma Street stations in both directions.
Today's Spirit of Queensland services will be replaced by buses between Rockhampton and Roma Street in both directions, while tomorrow's Spirit of Queensland services will be replaced with buses in both directions between Gympie North and Roma Street only.
We thank customers for their patience while we monitor the weather impacts and we work to recover the line.
We will keep customers updated and urge them to check the TransLink and Queensland Rail Travel websites for the latest information.
