A new three year, $6 million Tasmanian Government funding boost is set to power up motor racing in Tasmania.
Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said the Government was proud to continue supporting Supercar events, a partnership that had continued since 2004.
"This deal provides $4,155,000 to ensure Supercars events – such as the upcoming Tasmania Super 440 - can thrive in Tasmania through until 2027," Minister Duigan said.
"In addition to this, we will be providing $1.8 million to Motorsports Tasmania, the owners of Symmons Plains Raceway, to undertake mandatory safety and amenity improvements, ensuring the venue remains a premier destination for motorsport events."
Minister Duigan said the Tasmania Super 440 event in May, formerly known as the Tasmania Supersprint, was set to ignite the passion for motorsport fans across the state, offering around 200km of additional racing than in 2024.
"Excitingly, the 2025 event will see the return of the Top Ten Shootout Qualifying for the first time since 2010, along with the inaugural Super2 Top Five Shootout," Minister Duigan said.
"Without a doubt, these additions will enhance the spectator experience for the event. More than 20,000 interstate and international visitors are expected to attend over the next three years, providing substantial economic and social benefits to the state."
Supercars CEO Shane Howard said the extension is a testament to Tasmania's passionate motorsport community and the strong partnership with the Tasmanian Government.
"Tasmania has some of the most passionate and knowledgeable motorsport fans in the country, and we are thrilled to continue bringing Supercars racing to Symmons Plains for at least the next three years," Howard said.
"The support from the Tasmanian Government has been crucial in ensuring we can continue delivering high-quality racing and entertainment for local fans and visitors to the region."
Minister Duigan said as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, our Government remained committed to supporting major events that drive visitation and showcase the state on a national stage.
"The Supercars Championship is one of Tasmania's premier sporting events, attracting thousands of fans and generating millions of dollars in economic benefit for local businesses," Minister Duigan said.
"More than one million fans have attended Supercars events at Symmons Plains since 1995, and we look forward to welcoming many more over the coming years."

A motorsports fan event activation will also be held at Hobart's Princes Wharf No. 1 on Wednesday, 7 May 2025 from 3pm to 6pm, featuring several race cars, drivers and other fan activations.
