Young patients at Mater are getting a healing hand from their favourite superheroes thanks to The Courier-Mail's Children's Fund.
The charity has just made its first delivery of 'Supertees' to Mater Children's Private Brisbane, putting a smile on the faces of dozens of children who are recovering from illness or surgery.
The Supertees don't just make children feel like superheroes – they also make their stay in hospital more comfortable and less stressful.
The medical garments are specially adapted to make it easier to add and remove IV drips, feeding tubes and monitoring equipment.
"Our children love the new Supertees," said Nurse Unit Manager Corrie Lynch.
"Kids' clothes aren't designed for hospital drips and tubes, so just changing a T-shirt can be a real struggle for children and their parents.
"But the Supertees make it very easy and they're super fun too.
"Everyone gets a card and gift box with their Supertee and that gets lots of smiles from children who may be feeling nervous about being in hospital."
The tops were an instant hit with the Clark kids – siblings Lucas (8), Ava (5) and Noah (3) – when all three were admitted to have their tonsils removed by paediatric ENT specialist Dr Anthony Parker.
Mum Jessica Clark, of Victoria Point, said all three had been identified with tonsil and adenoid issues and underwent surgery one after each other on Wednesday.
"I love Captain America," said Lucas.
"I'm definitely taking my T-shirt home with me. It's pretty cool."
