After the recent East Gippsland bushfires Westbury Fire Brigade adopted the Wairewa community to support them in their recovery. Two months on, communities have come together for an evening of celebration.
On 14 March, Westbury brigade hosted a community celebration event at Wairewa Community Hall. The afternoon was dedicated to the Wairewa, Nowa Nowa, and Tostaree communities that were all impacted by the East Gippsland fires.
The afternoon was an opportunity for community members to come together and talk about the recent devastation.
Westbury brigade supplied a free barbecue for members as well as a bouncy castle, and the Blues Roulette played.
Westbury Fire Brigade Captain David Gridley helped organise the event.
"The day went really well and was the perfect way to end this stage of the friendship between the two brigades, a friendship that will go into the future.
"What a day in Wairewa!" David added. "It was totally awesome!"
Westbury brigade has supported Wairewa throughout the fire season after fires destroyed 11 properties and left the community devastated.
