The Tasmanian Government is getting on with the job of supporting development opportunities that take Tasmania forward.
The Land Use Planning and Approvals (Supporting Development) Bill 2024 has passed the House of Assembly, the first step in allowing the Minister to approve an additional, one-off extension for complex or technical projects if that extension would allow the development to commence.
Minister for Housing, Planning, and Consumer Affairs, Felix Ellis, said the Bill is backing in the Government's commitment to help get projects such as the Port Latta Wind Farm, out of the ground.
"We don't want to see complex developments, that have been years in the making, fall over as they're about to begin.
"This Bill recognises that some technical and complex projects may require additional time to meet substantial commencement under the Act.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we're enabling development to support local jobs and investment in our state.
"Our legislation will create more jobs, slash red-tape, and give key developments the support they need to benefit Tasmania."
