The Albanese Government is supporting arts in Melbourne's inner west, providing $5 million to revitalise Footscray CBD and establish it as a cultural precinct.
This is part of an $8.8 million investment in projects across Victoria under the Government's urban Precincts and Partnership Program to transform urban spaces to meet the needs of growing communities.
The funding will help revitalise the Metropolitan Activity Centre in Footscray, delivering a comprehensive business case, master plan, and detailed design to transform it into Creative West, a vibrant cultural precinct.
This project will facilitate the planning and design of a 6-star rated, 500-seat performance venue; a contemporary library and learning hub; and vibrant open spaces.
The Albanese Government is dedicated to delivering investment in our cities and suburbs by working with state and local governments to deliver the local projects that matter most to residents.
The project will be led by Maribyrnong City Council and is being developed in partnership with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, Victoria University, local traders and residents, and the arts and cultural community.
This demostrates the commitment of the Albanese Government to value to voices of locals and develop partnerships that will help build Australia's future in the long term.
