The Allan Labor Government is continuing to back Neale Daniher's fight to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), with a $250,000 donation.
Assistant Treasurer Danny Pearson joined Neale for the start of the Daniher's Drive today - the annual fundraiser that builds awareness and encourages Victorians to dig deep to help our researchers find a cure for MND
The Labor Government's donation builds on our long-standing support Neale's FightMND - taking the total contribution to more than $6.5 million since 2015, including a $250,000 donation as part of this year's Big Freeze 9.
These donations have gone towards establishing a High-throughput Drug Screening Platform for MND at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health in Parkville, supporting the establishment of a world-class facility and the generation of one of the largest MND stem cell collections in the world.
Departing today from the Essendon Hangar, a convey of 50 cars and 3 buses, carrying 240 participants and fundraisers will journey through Swan Hill, Shepparton and Creswick.
Funds raised through the Drive will be invested in vital and urgent MND research and care initiatives to improve the lives of those living with MND - FightMND has donated $95 million to this since inception.
Every day two Australians die from MND and two more will be diagnosed. There is no effective treatment and currently no cure.
As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan
"Neale's courage and willingness to fight inspires all of us each and every day. The Victorian Government is proud to support him so that one day we can hopefully find a cure."
"Thanks to the generosity of so many Victorians and the bravery of Neale, together we will find a cure to this insidious disease."
As stated by Assistant Treasurer Danny Pearson
"The work Neale has done since being diagnosed with MND is inspirational to so many people and we will continue to support Neale on his journey across Victoria - and we encourage all Victorians to do the same."
