Supporting Strong Multicultural Communities

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring multicultural Victorians can share and celebrate culture and traditions in accessible and safe environments.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence today announced the Australian Multicultural Community Services' Millennium House has been awarded a $500,000 grant to contribute to structural upgrades to their Seddon hub.

This round of grants is providing more than $4.5 million to be shared by 30 community organisations to build and upgrade facilities.

The Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund offers grants of up to $500,000 to organisations to help upgrade, renovate and maintain community infrastructure.

Having safe and secure places to celebrate and share cultural history and traditions ensures Victoria's multicultural communities continue to build connections and celebrate diversity.

The funding for the Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) will be used to refurbish the hub so it can continue its important work supporting multicultural and migrant communities.

AMCS provides support for seniors, adult education programs and pathways into employment. It also hosts arts and craft activities, exercise sessions and traditional and religious celebrations that foster friendships and community connections.

The Labor Government is committed to fostering an inclusive society - the community infrastructure funding ensures communities across Victoria have dedicated, accessible and safe spaces for community connection, and to ensure the sense of belonging that is essential to the wellbeing and unity of our state.

Other organisations to receive funding in this round include the Korean Society of Victoria in Oakleigh and Samadhi Buddhist Meditation Centre in Campbellfield, which will upgrade their community and main halls.

The benefits of the program will be shared across the state, with the Ballarat Croatian Community Centre receiving funding for an upgrade and the Druze Community Centre in Keysborough using its grant to improve its function rooms and amenities.

Full details of the latest round of Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund grant recipients will be available on Friday 13 May at vic.gov.au/multicultural-community-infrastructure-fund
