The Finocchiaro CLP Government is strengthening its commitment to supporting veterans, reservists, and defence families by enhancing employment pathways within the Northern Territory Public Sector.
The Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment has signed a 12-month agreement with Soldier On, a national not-for-profit organisation, which provides holistic support services to current and former Australian Defence Force personnel and their families.
As part of the agreement, the NT Government has pledged $5,000, the Platinum Pledge amount, to support Soldier On's veteran employment initiatives.
The funding will allow up to 250 veterans to access Soldier On's Pathways Program which offers professional development opportunities including job-readiness coaching and networking with prospective employers.
Minister for Public Service Jo Hersey said the agreement was a meaningful step in building a more inclusive and defence-friendly public service.
"We're proud to work with Soldier On to ensure the Northern Territory Public Sector is a place where veterans and defence families can succeed," said Mrs Hersey.
"Veterans bring invaluable skills, leadership and resilience to our workforce, and this partnership will help us support them as they transition into meaningful civilian roles.
"Our government has promised 2025 will be a year of action, certainty and security."
Through this agreement, NT Government agencies will gain access to training and resources to better support defence personnel and their families in the workplace.
This includes guiding managers and colleagues to understand the needs of reservists and veterans and providing flexible policies such as up to four weeks of paid defence service leave each year, plus two additional weeks during an employee's first year of service.
Minister for Veterans Jinson Charls said the agreement built on the Northern Territory Defence Veterans Strategy and contributed to national efforts to support veterans' wellbeing and transition.
"This partnership with Soldier On delivers on our commitment to make the Northern Territory a destination of choice for veterans and their families," said Mr Charls.
With the support of Soldier On, the NTPS will continue building inclusive, defence-friendly workplaces that recognise the unique contributions of veterans, reservists and defence families.
